Improve ITAM Operation Efficiency

Improving the operational efficiency of an organisation’s IT network is a goal for most enterprise organisations as they move ahead with digital transformation activities and shift workloads to the cloud. Prioritising activities to improve efficiency is difficult, especially as the IT departments of large enterprise organisations are comprised of disparate teams with their own goals, all working for the good of the company but not necessarily joining together to focus on the optimisation and planning that brings maximum business value. 

We have worked with the ITAM teams within organisations of all size and have experienced the pain points caused by a lack of joint up governance, policies and processes. 

The ITAM team in all large organisations have a central role to play in improving operational efficiency. They are key IT data custodians for the organisation and as such, have a unique overview of IT systems.

A fact that is often missed by SAM firms is that ITAM should not be a hindrance for employees to access software. Simply implementing several steps for users to follow when asking for software doesn’t help anyone, that usually results in employees trying to work around the process. Effective ITAM ensures that employees will have the software they want at the time when they need it, while at the same time minimising the costs and risks that come with it. Hence it empowers employees to do their job with greater efficiency, instead of hindering them. 

Improving ITAM efficiency goes well beyond software licensing compliance and spend optimisation. 

The data that is collated through an effective ITAM programme is a priceless resource that can be tapped into and used in combination with improved practices aligned to the objectives of the business, across multiple IT related departments. This data can be combined with the policy, process and governance expertise and insight of the FisherITS team to improve IT efficiency, delivering incremental business value. 

I am a Senior Manager at FisherITS and I am responsible for the overall delivery of Compliance Optimisation and SAM Maturity Transformation programmes. I started my career as a licence compliance auditor at a “Big Four” firm and have acted on behalf of a number of large software vendors by leading over a hundred enterprise-level license audits.

At FisherITS, my focus has been on providing my “poacher-turned-game-keeper” expertise to large enterprise customers to help them address tactical and strategic challenges in SAM and software licensing.
